There was someone in the house.

Home alone with her young children during a blizzard, a mother tucks her son back into bed in the middle of the night. Then she hears a noise – old houses are always making some kind of noise. But this sound is disturbingly familiar: it’s the tread of footsteps, unusually heavy and slow, coming up the stairs…

In that split second, she has three choices.

Should she hide? Should she run? Or should she fight?

✨My Thoughts✨

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

From the very first sentence I was gripped.

Isolated in a big old house during a violent snow storm all alone just you and your children then you hear a creak on the stairs and you try and convince yourself it’s just the wind or the old house settling but you know what footsteps on a stairs sounds like, then as quick as a flash like a lightning bolt striking you see a man at the end of the hallway!.

As the terrifying night unfolds we learn more and more about the mother and her past and present life, has all these events led up to what’s happening on this fateful night or not?.

I had seen so much hype online about this debut and I was thinking could it be as good as they’re all saying?.

The answer is yes, it’s the best debut that I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.

You feel like you’re the mother yourself going through all the horrific scenarios in your own head, I’ll be honest and say it’s the only book that’s made me feel scared.

At times I was physically screaming at the book because I was so frustrated at what what happening to the mother and her children, as the story unfolded and came to its dramatic conclusion I was literally holding my breath turning the pages.

If this terrifying, haunting debut doesn’t get made into a tv series or movie I’ll eat my hat!.
